front engine rear wheel drive or mid engine rear wheel drive?

i hated to buy front engine front wheel drive cars,but the problem is that they r everywhere, they r the only thing we can afford these days.But what about converting power to the rear wheels?Is it possible to send torque to the rear wheels?And i also heard a new popular mod where they make front engine fwd cars to a mid engine rear wheel drive.So the question is if possible what wud be better, a front enginge rwd car or a mid-engine rear wheel drive.

This would take much more money and fabrication than it is worth.

You would need to build a custom chassis from scratch to fit your car. Then remove the front subframe containing the drive train and move it to the rear. You would then lock the steering on the drive train assemble. You may need to relocate the fuel tank to make room. Find a safe location.

Next, you would need to fabricate the front suspension and steering from scratch. I hope you have an engineering degree or you may wind up with a very unstable car with bump steer. Bump steer is when the wheels turn unexpectedly as the suspension moves.

You need to then figure out how you are going to cool the engine as ti will now be far away from the radiator. If you move the radiator to the back, you lose airflow and cooling. If you have air conditioning, you need to fabricate something to connect to the condensor and to the passenger compartment.

Next, you can fabricate the custom exhaust.

Next, fabricate the custom throttle and transmission linkages.

Next comes the fun part. You need to make a custom wiring harness to connect the engine and transmission to the engine management computer.

Now that you lost all of your storage space, you may want to fabricate a space to store your luggage. But don't interfere with the airflow through your radiator. You might end up with enough room for a set of golf clubs. You may need to forget about the spare tire.

You can figure on a couple thousand man hours. If you have to pay someone to do this, figure on at least $100,000.

You will end up with something different, but the performance won't be very outstanding.

If you want rear wheel drive, why not just buy a Mustang GT. Or wait until 2008 for a Dodge Challenger or Chevrolet Camaro. You will have to wait to have your custom car fabricated anyway. Or you could spend about the same amount as you would spend to fabricate your car and get a Dodge Viper or a souped up Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
